Over 200 Tibetan refugees took out a peace procession in the town to memorialize the 60th “Uprising day of Tibet”. Clad in their traditional dress and also armed with placards, the refugess began to take out a peace procession covering over 4km beginning with the Government Botanical Garden gate to Ooty bus stand. In a bid to give respect to more than 152 individuals who scarificed their life for the cause of Tibet through self immolations since February 27, 2009 additionally they chanted prayers throughout the procession. About 74 Tibetan family members are living in the hill town for the past over thirty years. Almost all the Tibetan family members are associated with their traditional trade of woolen clothes business in the town.
